Which Level Should You Choose?

The Tahap control does more than change the number of questions — it swaps the entire question bank. Choose by what your child can already read comfortably, not strictly by school year; a child who finds P3–P4 frustrating will learn more from a confident run at P1–P2.

P1–P2

Darjah 1–2 · Ages 6–8

Concrete everyday nouns, two-syllable spelling, simple ber- and me- prefixes, short five-sentence passages. Heavy use of pictures and emoji anchors.

P3–P4

Darjah 3–4 · Ages 9–10

Occupations and places, doer prefixes (pe-, peng-), nasal assimilation rules, less common classifiers, and passages with two or three linked ideas.

P5–P6

Darjah 5–6 · Ages 11–12

Why These Skills Matter

Bahasa Melayu at primary level is assessed on two things: accurate word formation and comprehension of natural sentences. Imbuhan sits underneath both. A child who knows that tulis becomes menulis, penulis, tulisan and penulisan can decode unfamiliar words in a passage instead of stalling on them, and can vary their sentence structure in composition. Repeated short drills work better here than long sessions, because the nasal assimilation rules (mem-, men-, meng-, meny-) are learned by pattern recognition rather than by memorising a table.

Peribahasa and penjodoh bilangan are the two areas where children most often lose marks they could easily keep. Proverbs are a closed set — a child who works through 150 of them has effectively covered the syllabus, and proverbs used correctly lift essay grades noticeably. Classifiers are similar: perhaps twenty forms cover almost everything a primary student needs, but they have to be practised against real nouns rather than memorised as a list, which is why every classifier question here presents four plausible options rather than a blank.

Comprehension is the slowest to improve and the most worth the time. The passages here are deliberately written about things Malaysian and Singaporean children recognise — a school library, a night market stall, Hari Sukan, the National Museum, Lee Chong Wei, plastic pollution — so that a child is decoding language rather than guessing at unfamiliar context.
