The Seven Worksheet Types

Each type in the Worksheet Type dropdown draws from its own question bank, and each bank is written separately for the three level bands — so a P1 sheet never pulls a P6 word.

• சொல்வளம் (Vocabulary) — 201 curated Tamil words with English meanings, grouped by theme: family, school, home, animals, places, government and civics.
• வேர்ச்சொல் (Word Formation) — 150 items showing how a root word takes a suffix to become a new word. Tamil is agglutinative, so this is the single most useful skill for reading unfamiliar text.

The Level control swaps the entire question bank, not just the difficulty of the wording. Choose by what your child reads comfortably rather than strictly by school year — a confident run at P1–P2 teaches more than a frustrating one at P3–P4.

How to Use This Generator

Why These Skills Matter in Tamil

Tamil is an agglutinative language: meaning is built by attaching suffixes to a root, so a single root generates a whole family of words. The root படி (study) yields படித்தான் (he studied), படிக்கிறான் (he studies) and படிப்பு (education). A child who can spot the root inside a long word can decode vocabulary they were never formally taught — which matters far more in Tamil than memorising word lists does. That is why word formation gets its own worksheet type here instead of being folded into vocabulary.

The உயர்திணை / அஃறிணை distinction — roughly, rational beings versus everything else — has no equivalent in English and is a common early stumbling block. It governs which verb endings, pronouns and plural forms are correct, so getting it wrong cascades into other mistakes. Practising it as a simple two-way sort at P1–P2, before parts of speech are introduced, builds the instinct early.

Proverbs carry disproportionate weight in Tamil composition and comprehension. They are a closed set, so a child who works steadily through 150 of them has covered most of what primary school expects, and a well-placed பழமொழி visibly lifts a piece of writing. Because many depend on rural or historical imagery that children today rarely encounter, every proverb here is paired with both a Tamil explanation and an English gloss rather than being left to be memorised blind.

Common Mistakes These Worksheets Target

The question banks are weighted towards the error patterns that cost primary children the most marks. Recognising them in practice is the fastest route to improvement:

• Applying அஃறிணை verb endings to people. Children who have not internalised the திணை distinction write forms like ஆசிரியர் வந்தது instead of ஆசிரியர் வந்தார். The classification worksheets drill the sort itself, so the correct ending follows automatically rather than being memorised case by case.
• Confusing the -ப்பு and -தல் noun suffixes. Both turn a verb into a noun, but they are not interchangeable: உழை gives உழைப்பு (labour, the thing) while எழுது gives எழுதுதல் (writing, the act). Seeing them side by side in the same worksheet is what makes the difference stick.
• Dropping or doubling consonants at a suffix boundary. படி becomes படித்தான் with a doubled consonant, but படிப்பு with a different one. Children who learn each derived word as an isolated item never spot the rule; the root-plus-suffix layout is designed to expose it.
• Treating tense endings as fixed word endings. கிறான், கிறாள் and கிறார் differ only by who is acting, and children often lock onto one form. The word formation bank varies the subject deliberately so all three appear.
• Reciting proverbs without knowing the meaning. A proverb used in the wrong context loses more marks than not using one at all, which is why every item here carries both a Tamil explanation and an English gloss.

Using These Worksheets at Home

Short and frequent beats long and occasional. Ten questions a day, four or five days a week, works better than a single long session at the weekend — particularly for word formation, where the goal is pattern recognition rather than recall. Print the sheet with the answer key hidden for your child, and generate the same sheet again with the key shown as your marking copy.

If your child is learning Tamil mainly at home rather than at school, start one band below their school year and move up only once they are finishing a sheet comfortably. Mixing types too early tends to hide which specific skill is weak; a week on vocabulary, then a week on word formation, makes the gap obvious. Once individual skills are solid, the கலப்பு (Mixed) option is the closest thing here to a school revision paper.
