Build better Chinese sentences, from Primary 1 to Primary 6. Each set has six short exercises: put words in order, fill in the blank, correct a sentence, make a sentence longer, and write your own, with pinyin, English and a printable worksheet. Questions change every time.
Knowing words is not the same as using them. In Singapore primary school Chinese, children are asked to put jumbled words in order (连词成句), fill in a missing word or linking word (完成句子), make a short sentence richer (扩句) and write their own sentence with a given word (造句). The same skills carry straight into composition: a child who can turn 小猫睡觉 into 小白猫在软软的沙发上甜甜地睡觉 writes livelier essays, and a child who is sure of 因为……所以…… and 虽然……但是…… can explain and link ideas instead of writing a list of short sentences.
Every set has one theme or grammar point and four short parts. In 连词成句 Word order, your child taps the words in order; a correct sentence is read aloud, and if the order is wrong, the words in the wrong place turn grey so your child can see where it went off track. Where two orders are both natural, both are accepted.
Each set holds a pool of questions for 连词成句, 完成句子 and 改病句, and every practice run and every printed worksheet picks a fresh five, so a set can be done again without simply remembering the answers.
In 完成句子 Fill in the blank, your child picks one of three words. A wrong pick is greyed out and they try again, and after the right answer a one-line explanation in English says why it fits, for example that 还是 needs 虽然 rather than 因为.
In 扩句 Make it longer, a bare sentence grows one step at a time. Before each step the page asks a question (什么时候?在哪里?怎么样?), and your child says their own version first, then taps to see one model. In 改病句 Correct the sentence, a sentence has one mistake, the kind children really make (a wrong measure word, a missing 得, two linking words that don't belong together), and your child picks the corrected version. In 造句 Make a sentence, your child writes their own sentence with each word or pattern. The page only checks that the word is used; it never marks a sentence right or wrong, because many different sentences are good. Example sentences follow for comparison. 仿写 Write on the pattern works the same way: a model sentence shows a pattern, such as 有的……有的……还有的……, and your child writes a new sentence on it.

| P5–P6 (ages 11–12) | Longer linked sentences, richer description, idiomatic phrases and the patterns that lift a composition |
